Opus Returns & Exchanges

Free Shopify exchange app

A simple return and exchange portal for small Shopify stores

If you are still handling exchange requests through email, you probably do not need enterprise return software. Opus gives customers a clear request flow and gives your team one queue for reviewing returns, exchanges, damaged items, and delivery issues.

What the exchange workflow includes

  • A branded customer return and exchange portal
  • Order lookup and item selection
  • Return windows, exclusions, and allowed outcomes
  • Variant exchange and replacement requests
  • Refund, store credit, replacement, and resend outcomes
  • Request status, inbound tracking, and inspection notes
  • Customer and staff notifications
  • Shopify Flow triggers for lightweight automation

Set it up in about a minute

  1. Install Opus from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Choose your return window and allowed resolutions.
  3. Preview the customer portal with your store branding.
  4. Add the customer entry point through the theme editor.
  5. Submit a test request before sharing it with customers.

The defaults are intentionally usable. You can adjust wording, colors, placement, rules, and advanced CSS later without blocking the initial launch.

When a free, focused app is enough

Good fit

Start with Opus when

  • Your team processes requests through email or forms
  • You have modest return volume
  • Most exchanges are simple variant swaps
  • You want to launch without a developer
  • You value a small, understandable workflow

Consider a larger platform

Look beyond Opus when

  • You need automatic carrier label purchasing
  • You require instant exchanges before items arrive
  • You operate complex international return routing
  • You need advanced fraud or abuse scoring
  • A specific enterprise integration is mandatory

How can the app stay free?

Opus was built to establish a useful Shopify product and a developer reputation, not to maximize short-term subscription revenue. The operating footprint is small enough to offer every current feature for free. Paid optional features may be added in the future, but the current product has no hidden checkout or gated trial.

If you are deciding whether a return portal is worth setting up, use the free returns-by-email cost calculator to estimate the staff hours and labor cost in your current workflow.

Common questions

Can customers request a different size or color?

Yes. The merchant controls whether exchanges are available and reviews the requested replacement variant before completing it.

Can I test it before customers see it?

Yes. Configure and preview the portal, submit a test request, and connect the storefront entry point only when you are ready.

Does Opus buy return labels automatically?

No. Opus supports customer-arranged shipping and merchant-uploaded labels, but it does not currently purchase carrier labels for you.
