Opus Returns & Exchanges

Returns platform comparison

A simpler Loop Returns alternative for small Shopify stores

Loop is a mature post-purchase platform with advanced exchanges, fraud tools, shipping options, and a large integration network. Those capabilities make sense for many established brands. A smaller store handling a modest number of returns may only need a clear customer portal and a reliable workflow inside Shopify.

Start with the operating cost

Every current Opus feature is free, with no usage cap, paid tier, or credit card. Loop currently advertises a Checkout+ option as free software plus return shipping, while its Essential and Advanced returns plans start at $155 and $340 per month. Pricing and plan details can change, so verify them on Loop's official pricing page before making a decision.

What each product is built to do

Opus

Core operations for a small team.

  • Branded self-service return and exchange portal
  • Eligibility windows, exclusions, and outcome rules
  • Variant exchanges, replacements, and store credit
  • Inbound tracking, inspection, and Shopify outcomes
  • Customer-arranged shipping or merchant-uploaded labels
  • Shopify Flow trigger and a one-click order-tag workflow

Loop

A broader post-purchase platform.

  • Advanced and instant exchange experiences
  • Carrier rate shopping and shipping automation
  • Fraud, abuse, and return-intelligence tooling
  • Complex workflows and multi-destination routing
  • Large integration ecosystem and enterprise support
  • Checkout, tracking, protection, and other add-ons

Loop capabilities are summarized from its official Returns product page and Exchanges product page. Opus is not affiliated with or endorsed by Loop.

Opus is the practical fit when

  • You still process most return requests through email
  • You want customers to request a return without contacting support
  • Your return volume does not justify another subscription
  • You mainly need rules, review, tracking, and Shopify outcomes
  • You prefer a setup a small team can understand immediately

Opus is not a drop-in Loop replacement when

Keep Loop on the shortlist if you need automatic carrier label purchasing, instant exchanges before an item arrives, advanced catalog-wide exchange merchandising, sophisticated fraud models, complex international routing, or a particular enterprise integration. Opus intentionally does not pretend those are small features.

How to test Opus without disrupting customers

  1. Install Opus and set your return window and allowed outcomes.
  2. Create a test request from an existing test order.
  3. Confirm the request, exchange, and resolution flow fits your process.
  4. Add the Opus entry point only when the customer flow is ready.
  5. Remove the previous storefront return link after the new one is live.

You do not need to cancel another service merely to evaluate Opus. Keep only one customer-facing return entry point active during the final switch so shoppers are not sent to two portals.
