Set up exchanges and price differences
Choose which products customers may receive and what happens when the replacement costs more or less.
Choose the exchange catalog
| Catalog rule | Customer can choose |
|---|---|
| Selected products | Only products you select with Shopify's product picker |
| Same product | Another variant of the returned product |
| Same price | Eligible products at the same price |
| Full catalog | Any eligible in-stock product not excluded by another rule |
Same-product exchange requires a different variant. Different-product exchange requires a different product. Opus tracks quantities, so three returned units must be matched by three replacement units before the request can continue.
Price-difference choices
- Equal value: no payment or refund difference applies.
- Replacement costs more: collect the difference through Shopify or waive what the customer owes.
- Replacement costs less: refund the difference through Shopify or waive the refund difference.
- Only two relevant choices appear for a given exchange: waive, or collect/refund according to the direction of the difference.
Higher-priced exchanges
When the customer owes money, Shopify creates and sends its official payment request. The exchange fulfillment remains on hold. In Opus, the request becomes Awaiting payment. Select Check payment and release exchange only after the customer has paid in Shopify.
